I remember how you:

  • enjoyed having family into your home for holiday meals. The Lord tells us to be hospitable, and you were a wonderful example. Your house wasn’t very big, but everyone was welcome at your table.
  • showed me sand you’d brought home from a Florida beach. I’m not sure who was more excited ~ you telling me about the ocean or me being curious about something I’d never seen before.
  • would always give us kids a WHOLE “sody.” You always had a fridge full of pop, and liked to share it. At home Marty and I had to share a pop, so I felt pretty grown up getting one all to myself.
  • would laugh at our burping contests, as my cousins and I drank our pop. (One time Jr. got to laughing and the pop came out of his nose! Then we REALLY laughed!)
  • would set up the portable record player in your living room and play the “Shaft” album. I’ll never forget you nodding your head & foot to the music. You sure liked that album!
  • drove your yellow car. You knew your way anywhere, it seemed, and you weren’t afraid to drive fast. (It was fun to ride in your back seat! (You were a crazy/fun aunt that didn’t let much get in your way.)
  • introduced me to Gilligan’s Island. You and Uncle Chuck had cable before it was even invented, and you had to explain Gilligan’s Island to me.  Eventually, it was a show I watched after school everyday for years on end.
  • enjoyed sending little odds and ends home with me (like fancy dusting rags and plastic-weave items you made).
  • gave me my first kiddy-cocktail. It was either Thanksgiving or Christmas at your house.  I thought you were pretty cool for knowing how to make such a fun drink.
  •  would get a new magnet for your fridge, and couldn’t wait to show it off. You sure loved your magnets!
  • would wait on and spoil Uncle Chuck when he needed something - no matter what the project or situation. You were always there to hand him whatever he needed, and you were so patient with him.
  • laughed and laughed at a birthday card Lynn and I gave you about how the older you get the bigger your purse gets. You always had big purses (and you always had everything but the kitchen sink in them!).
  • always had a sweater. It didn’t take much for you to get a chill.
  • would drink 7-Up like it was going out of style. I sure hope Uncle Chuck bought stock in 7-Up,  because you guys had to be one of their best customers!
  • danced and danced at my wedding. I enjoyed watching you have so much fun.
  • always had a caring heart, and if you could help someone – you would.
  • happily gave me last minute rides to Rocky my Senior year when I lived with Grandma Husted for a little bit. I knew I could call you in a pinch, and you were always there for me. I thanked you for this again about 2 weeks ago, when you were at Trinity West and you and I had a nice, private chat about so many things that we’ve never really talked about. I’m so thankful for that chat...

I always remeber two things amongst many:  The first one is that you were never in the house more than 30 seconds without being offered a Coke!  Well, for the last couple of years for me it has been a Diet Coke.  LOL

The other was a phrase that Bonnie used many times over: "that ain't no lie"

I'm going to miss the Black Hawk State Bank Callendar that Bonnie used to get me every year for the last 6 years.  More importantly, if anyone could find me a DVD that I wanted, it was Bonnie.
